Ginger Recipes – The One Ingredient Roundup

Better late than never, here is a collection of ginger recipes, thanks to all the tasty submissions to the December (gulp) one ingredient challenge.

If like me you are a ginger fan, I do hope you will be inspired. Whilst many of the recipes were based around Christmas, Ginger still has its place in warming us during these remaining Winter days.

Gingerbread houses are somewhat of a trend at the moment, Assisted by a plethora of kits such as those from Lakeland and IKEA, the task of decorating them is hazardous and fun (if and when the house will stand). The monumental calorie load means it is safest to make this when there are children involved and willing to eat it. I know the dangers having made one last year and had to eat it largely unaided. It was a tough job that involved a not insignificant amount of guilt and pleasure.

To Angie then who submitted TWO entries.

This glorious creation even had stained glass windows made using boiled sweets

And this ginger cake house is also decorated in a truly Christmassy style.

Here is Helen’s creation (you will have to click on the link as I can only paste this tiny image below)

Over at A Trifle Rushed, Jude is quite and expert and regularly makes seasonal variations of Gingerbread house, proving that this does not have to be an activity limited to Christmas time. Here is a polar gingerbread house , with resident penguins!

For some delectable ginger snacks with Italian inspiration, take a look at these Cinnamon and Ginger Chocolate balls from Rita, that are rather like truffles, but held together with nuts and dates instead of cake.

And The Hungry Hinny has made some really lovely Gingerbread truffles coated in white chocolate.

Over at Adventures of a London Kiwi, we have a Ginger Slice recipe from a Kiwi Classic Cookbook (the Edmonds Cookbook). A perfect elevenses treat

More elevenses treats from Cakes, Crumbs and cooking with this ginger rocky road.

Choclette made these ginger, choc chip and oat cookies (how yummy and at least the oats are healthy!)

Karen at Lavender and Lovage has some Christmas-inspired cupcakes that are beautiful and spiced with the scent of the season. One of the things on my to make list next Yuletide!

And at Under the blue gum tree, we have some delicious Mulled Apple Juice. anyone with a cold will probably love this at any time of year!

Fiona has made a Chicken Tagine. Ginger (along with Cumin) is a favourite for me in savoury meals too. Especially Casserole type dishes such as this.

And finally Ren has made a Spiced Cranberry and Plum Chutney, perfect with salads and cold cuts of meat.

So that is it

This month’s One Ingredient will be announced shortly!

Thank you all for your patience whilst the blog slowly comes back to life post house move!

Fantastic to see the round up, ginger is something I love. I can’t believe I didn’t submit anything myself so Please accept my apologies. I can’t think or even remember why I didn’t add my gingerbread house . I do find I am being so forgetful since starting work. I had a terrible scare this week when I thought I had lost a whole work file on the very first job I am doing for a new college. So, thanks for sharing this delicious One Ingredient ginger round up. I have enjoyed it more as it takes me back to all the all the festive flavours once again!

I can’t believe I didn’t get round to entering anything in December as I love ginger! Then again I did have a lot of other things to write about in the run up to Christmas. Fantastic round up and there’s lot of things here that I want to have a go at making. I’m hosting We Should Cocoa this month and have also picked ginger as the theme so there should be lots of warming chocolately treats to enjoy!
